When it comes to learning about the History of Scotland, the best place one can search for information is online. There are plenty of websites, which offer you the chance to learn more about this fascinating country that is part of the British Isles.

Certainly, the first bit of recorded history relating to this country dates back to the 1st Century AD at the time when the Romans had just invaded Britain. Although they had no problem subduing those in the southern part of Britain, when it came to Scotland, they were unable to bring the tribes that lived in this part under control.

When the Romans came to Britain they called Scotland, Caledonia and the people who lived in this part Picts (meaning painted). In fact, it was not until the 5th Century when Irish immigrants called Scots arrived and it was then that the King of Picts (Kenneth MacAlphine) converted to Christianity. Yet it took another five centuries and finally in the 10th Century the land we know today as Scotland became known as this.

Along with Irish immigrants, settling in Scotland a large number of Anglo Saxons decided to settle in its Lowlands when the Normans conquered England. At this time, the Scots began to very slowly adopt some of the ways of the English. Along with Feudalism, being established the chiefs of the clans and tribes in Scotland then became Nobles. It was at this time we see Scotland developing with towns increasing in size, trade with other regions and countries also improved and so it became a much wealthier country.
